Introduzione
The DELEM DA-66S is a state-of-the-art control system used in various manufacturing processes, particularly in the metalworking industry. Configuring this tool correctly is crucial for optimal performance and accuracy.
Step 1: Accessing the Configurazione dello strumento DELEM DA-66S
Step 2: Activating the Tool Setup Function
To begin with the tool configuration on the DELEM DA-66S, it’s essential to activate the Tool Setup function. This displays a detailed visual of the machine’s current setup, crucial for programming the correct placement of tools such as punches, dies, and adapters.
Step 3: Selecting and Adding New Tools
When initiating a new tool configuration, the machine’s setup is clear. To add a new tool, select “Add” and choose from punches, dies, or adapters if applicable. Each tool is placed at maximum available length, and the Tool ID can then be modified using the List view for precise adjustments. The detailed operation is as follows:
Quando si avvia una nuova configurazione dell'utensile, l'apertura della macchina è vuota.
Selezionare Aggiungi per aggiungere uno strumento alla configurazione: punzone, matrice o adattatore (se abilitato).
Una volta scelto un utensile (ad esempio un punzone), questo viene posizionato nella macchina con la massima lunghezza disponibile.
Dopo aver posizionato uno strumento, è possibile modificarne l'ID selezionando l'ID punzone nella schermata e toccando la vista Elenco.
If only a part of the tool ID is typed, the control automatically offers a list of tools with the typed characters. This is a filtering function.
By tapping Advice from this screen a limited selection from the available tools will be made
and displayed. The criteria for the selection are:
• Product radius; the selected tool must result in a product radius close to the preferred radius. The resulting radius must be in the range of the preferred radius +/- 50%.
• The necessary bending force should not exceed the resistance of the tools.
• The angle of the tools should be equal to or smaller than the required product angle.
• The bend method should match. For example, hemming tools are selected when the product contains hem bends.
In case of a Multi-V die, i.e. a die with more than one V- or U-opening, a specific V- or U-opening of the Multi-V die can be selected or the Multi-V die (with V = *) can be selected. If a specific V- or U-opening is selected, this opening is used by the bend sequence calculation; if the Multi-V die (with V = *) is selected, the control will use the opening which will result in a product radius as close as possible to the programmed product radius.
If during the bend sequence calculation another V- or U-opening is selected, this new opening is used by the control for the remaining bends (which are not in the bend sequence yet).
Vario-V, selezione e impostazione
In the context of configuring a DELEM DA-66S with a Vario-V die (which provides a variable V- or U-opening), the initial selection process is the same as for any other die.
When you select a Vario-V, its V-value is initially not set. You can proceed to create a bend sequence, during which the control system will choose the most suitable V-value based on the available Vario-V positions. If you specify a particular V-value, the system will use this in its calculations. If the Vario-V system employs discrete positions, only those specific values can be selected; if a different value is programmed, the system will default to the nearest available value.
In Bend Sequence mode, you can modify the V-opening for Multi-V or the V-value for Vario-V by using the Modify or Shift Die options, which let you adjust these settings through the interface. The Die positioning function in Program mode provides similar capabilities for adjustments.
Configuring Tool Placement and Length
Step 4: Programming Tool Length and Position
In the DELEM DA-66S Tool Configuration system, altering a tool’s length or position is straightforward. Simply select the tool and input a new value, or reposition it by dragging. This process is enhanced by a dragging feature that slows down the motion when you drag more downward, allowing for precise tool placement. This improved accuracy is a key component of the DELEM DA-66S Tool Configuration.
A standout feature in the DELEM DA-66S Tool Configuration is the snapping function, crucial for proper tool alignment. As you drag tools or tool stations, the snapping function aligns them either vertically or horizontally with the machine’s center. When the tools are within the snapping zone, a red line appears, indicating the best position for release. This feature ensures precise alignment, integral to effective DELEM DA-66S Tool Configuration.
Furthermore, the DELEM DA-66S Tool Configuration automatically places a die below a punch, matching its length and position. This setup can be customized further by adding or deleting punzoni e matrici, moving tools, changing their lengths, adjusting orientations, or modifying heel types. These capabilities in the DELEM DA-66S Tool Configuration provide flexibility to meet various operational requirements.
Delete config
The existing configuration is deleted and a new tool configuration can be started.
Add
Add a new tool to the tool configuration. When pressed, some new functions are offered to choose the tool: upper adapter (if enabled), punch, die or lower adapter (if enabled).
Delete
Delete the currently selected tool.
Step 5: Utilizing the Auto Select Feature
From the Tool Configuration screen the function Auto select is offered. This function helps the user to select a set of tools (punch and die) best fitting to the programmed bend given the maximum bendline size for this product. The automatic selection from the tool library will be done finding the best possible fitting tools for one bend (resulting in a most optimal product radius). It will not generate a full tool setup since therefore the bend sequence is a most important constraint. The Auto select function will replace the existing tool setup.
Advanced Tool Configuration and Segmentation
Step 6: Managing Tool Segmentation
When dealing with segmented tools, the DELEM DA-66S tool configuration allows you to automatically calculate optimal segmentation based on segment lengths. This ensures the tooling fits precisely within the machine’s constraints, improving bending efficiency.

Segmenti nella libreria degli strumenti
To enable the use of segments, and the calculation of segmentation based on the available segments, one needs to fill out the library. This can be done in the tool programming, to be found in Machine mode, under Punches or Dies in the tool properties.
Step 7: Station Selection and Repositioning
In the DELEM DA-66S Tool Configuration, understanding the Station view is essential for effective tool setup:
- Highlighting and Repositioning: In the Station view, entire tool stations are highlighted for selection. You can easily reposition these stations by programming a new position or dragging them to the desired location within the machine, enhancing flexibility in the DELEM DA-66S Tool Configuration.
- Defining Tool Stations: A tool station is automatically defined when there is an overlap between punches and dies. This overlap could be a precise position or a shifted one, still considered a tool station. Even configurations with two punches opposite a single die count as a station, which is advantageous for bending constrained bends in the DELEM DA-66S Tool Configuration.
- Managing Tool Stations: In Station view, you can copy an existing station using the ‘add’ button or remove it with the ‘delete’ button. Importantly, Station view allows for the manipulation of stations without altering individual tool details, making the DELEM DA-66S Tool Configuration both powerful and user-friendly.
