Kitchen Equipment Basics

How Commercial Kitchen & Food Service Equipment Are Made

Commercial kitchen equipment is built from stainless steel 304 (0.8–2.0 mm). Blanks are laser cut or sheared, V-grooved for sharp worktop edges, bent on panel benders and press brakes, sinks and bowls are deep drawn on hydraulic presses, and seams are laser welded and polished so surfaces are smooth and easy to clean.

Food-service fabricators need hygienic, gap-free joints and a cosmetic finish on every visible surface, while handling many custom sizes — so accurate cutting, mark-free bending and low-distortion welding matter more than raw tonnage.

Challenges & Solutions

What Matters in Kitchen Equipment

  • Hygienic, seamless joints

Laser welding gives narrow welds that are easy to grind and polish flush.

  • Mark-free stainless surfaces

Protective film, nylon die inserts and panel benders that keep sheets supported avoid scratches.

  • Custom sizes every day

Laser cutting and CNC programming make one-off worktables as efficient as batches.

  • Deep-drawn sinks

Hydraulic presses with controlled speed and blank holding draw bowls without wrinkles or tearing.

HARSLE AutoBend panel bender

Automate Bending

Cintreuse de panneaux pour équipements de cuisine

A HARSLE panel bender clamps the sheet flat and forms all four sides in one cycle with universal tooling — ideal for the repeat panels, doors and boxes found in commercial kitchen & food service equipment.

  • Bending length 1400–3000 mm (AutoBend)
  • 0–180° bending angle, 0.2 s per bend
  • Minimal operator skill, fast changeovers

FAQ

Questions fréquemment posées

Common questions about machines and processes for commercial kitchen & food service equipment.

Ask our engineers

What machines do I need to make stainless steel kitchen equipment?

A fiber laser or shear for blanks, a V-grooving machine for sharp worktop edges, a press brake and/or panel bender for bending, a hydraulic press for deep-drawn sinks, laser welding and a deburring/polishing machine.

Why use laser welding for kitchen equipment?

Laser welding uses little heat, so stainless parts distort and discolor less and the narrow seams are quicker to grind and polish to a hygienic finish.

How are stainless steel sinks made?

Sink bowls are deep drawn on a hydraulic press using a punch, die and blank holder, or fabricated from bent sheet and welded; the bowl is then welded into the worktop.

What stainless grade is used for commercial kitchens?

AISI 304 is the standard for food-contact surfaces; 430 is often used for non-contact panels such as hoods and cabinet backs.

Can a panel bender handle stainless steel?

Yes. Panel benders process stainless steel; the maximum thickness is lower than for mild steel (for example 1.0–2.0 mm stainless depending on the series), so check the model capacity for your parts.
