Fitness Equipment Basics

How Fitness & Gym Equipment Are Made

Fitness equipment frames are made mainly from round, square and rectangular steel tube (typically 1.5–3.0 mm wall) plus sheet metal guards and brackets. Tubes are cut and notched on a tube laser, bent into handles, uprights and curved frames on a CNC tube bender, joined by welding and finished with powder coating.

Because the same frame is produced in hundreds of identical pieces, a CNC tube bender with stored programs and a multi-layer die keeps every bend angle and radius repeatable, so welded frames fit their jigs without rework.

Challenges & Solutions

What Matters in Fitness Equipment

  • Repeatable frame geometry

CNC tube benders store each part program, so every bend angle and radius matches and frames fit their welding jigs.

  • Clean, wrinkle-free bends

Mandrel, wiper die and the right bend radius keep handle and frame bends smooth for a premium look.

  • Many tube sizes

Multi-layer dies switch between bend radii in one setup to reduce changeovers.

  • Strong, accurate joints

Laser-cut notches and laser welding give tight, strong joints for load-bearing frames.

Panel Bender for Fitness Equipment

A HARSLE panel bender clamps the sheet flat and forms all four sides in one cycle with universal tooling — ideal for the repeat panels, doors and boxes found in fitness & gym equipment.

  • Bending length 1400–3000 mm (AutoBend)
  • 0–180° bending angle, 0.2 s per bend
  • Minimal operator skill, fast changeovers

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about machines and processes for fitness & gym equipment.

Ask our engineers

Which machine is used to bend gym equipment tubes?

A CNC tube bending machine bends round and square tubes into handles, uprights and curved frames. Servo feeding and rotation (ProCurve) produce repeatable 2D and 3D shapes; a hydraulic NC bender (EcoCurve) covers larger diameters for 2D frames.

What tube sizes are common in fitness equipment?

Main frames typically use 40–80 mm square or rectangular steel tube with 2.0–3.0 mm wall; handles and grips use 25–38 mm round tube.

How do you avoid wrinkles on tight handle bends?

Use a mandrel and wiper die, a bend radius of at least 1.5–2 × the tube diameter and correct clamp and pressure die settings.

Can HARSLE supply the complete equipment for fitness frames?

Yes — tube laser cutting, CNC tube bending, press brakes, laser welding and deburring, configured for your frame designs and volumes.
