Heavy Machinery Basics

How Heavy Machinery & Agricultural Equipment Are Made

Heavy machinery is built from thick carbon and wear-resistant steel, typically 6–40 mm. Plates are cut by shearing, plasma or laser, bent on heavy-duty press brakes, rolled into curved shells and bucket bodies, pressed and straightened on hydraulic presses, and welded into frames, booms and buckets.

High tonnage, long beds and robust tooling are essential, together with accuracy that keeps large welded structures in tolerance.

Challenges & Solutions

What Matters in Heavy Machinery

  • Thick, wear-resistant plate

High-tonnage press brakes with wide dies and large radii bend Hardox-type plate without cracking.

  • Long box sections

Long-bed and tandem press brakes form booms in one piece.

  • Accurate large structures

CNC bending and rolling keep weld fit-up consistent.

  • Profiles and flats

Ironworkers punch, shear and notch angles and flats in one machine.

Panel Bender for Heavy Machinery

A HARSLE panel bender clamps the sheet flat and forms all four sides in one cycle with universal tooling — ideal for the repeat panels, doors and boxes found in heavy machinery & agricultural equipment.

  • Bending length 1400–3000 mm (AutoBend)
  • 0–180° bending angle, 0.2 s per bend
  • Minimal operator skill, fast changeovers

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about machines and processes for heavy machinery & agricultural equipment.

Ask our engineers

Which press brake is suitable for heavy machinery parts?

Heavy-duty press brakes of 800 to 3000+ tons (HARSLE MegaBend) with long beds and wide dies bend thick booms, frames and buckets.

Can wear-resistant steel be bent on a press brake?

Yes, with sufficient tonnage, a wide V-die and a larger inner radius as recommended by the steel maker to avoid cracking.

Plasma, laser or shear for thick plate?

Shears are fastest for straight cuts; plasma is economical for thick contours; fiber lasers give better accuracy and edge quality up to their thickness limit.

What is an ironworker used for?

An ironworker combines punching, shearing, notching and section cutting for angles, flats and bars in one hydraulic machine.
