Bending Machine Description

A press brake is a versatile and essential piece of equipment used in the metal fabrication industry to bend sheet and plate material, most commonly sheet metal. It consists of a pair of tools called the punch and die, which form the metal into various angles and shapes.


Normally, several types of brakes, like mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and servo-electric are available in our company. As a typical product, hydraulic press brake can bend various plates. This hydraulic bending machine can satisfy many workpieces’ requirements by changing molds. The structure mainly includes the bracket, the workbench and the clamping plate. Workbench is on the bracket, and consists of base and the clamp. The base is connected to the clamp plate through a hinge, and the base is composed of shell, coil and plate. When using hydraulic press brake, coil is powered on by a conductor. After powering on, the clamp generates bending force, so as to realize the bending of steel plates.

Usage

Hydraulic press brake can be applied to manufacture boiler tank, air conditioning channels, sheet metal cover, cone-shaped wokpieces, etc. It is widely used in metal fabrication, marine and ship building, pressure vassals and wind mills.


1. Bending Sheet Metal: The most common use of a press brake is to bend sheet metal at various angles and into different shapes like U-shapes, V-shapes, and channels. The angle of the bend is determined by the tooling and the depth to which the punch tool forces the metal into the die.


2. Forming Boxes and Pans: Press brakes are ideal for creating boxes, pans, and other complex three-dimensional shapes. This process may involve several operations to achieve the final shape.


Making Brackets and Frames: It is widely used for forming brackets, frames, and structural components which are integral to construction and machinery.


3. Producing Complex Bends: With specialized tooling, press brakes can perform complex bending operations, including over-bending and return flanges, which are critical in high-precision manufacturing.


4. Prototyping and Custom Fabrication: Due to its flexibility and precision, a press brake is commonly used for prototyping new products and custom fabrication where bespoke shapes are required.

Two-speed is standard and three-speed with infinitely adjustable low speed is optional. This option prevents sudden malfunction during operations of hydraulic bending machine.

It is the most common one among press brakes.


Manual press brakes are required to manually adjust the bending dimensions and angles when used. Manual press brake also contains worktable,supporters,and the clamping plate. The worktable is also mounted on the supporters, which consists of a base and a pressure plate.


Manual press brakes are much more complex in operation than other types of press brakes,therefore, to make mass production after confirming bending size and bending angles. When finished one batch of mass production,adjusting bending size and bending angles for continued production.

Classified by synchronization, the hydraulic press brake can be divided into torsion synchronization press brake, hybrid press brake , and electric hydraulic synchronization press brake.


Classified by movement, the hydraulic press brake can be divided into:Up moving press brake, down moving press brake.


Hydraulic press brake contains supporters, worktable and clamping plate. The worktable is placed on the supporters, consist of base and pressure plate. The base is connected with the clamping plate by means of a hinge and it is composed of shell, coil and cover plate. The coil is placed in the recess of the shell while the top of the recess is covered with a cover.

CNC press brake is one kind of press brakes to realize bending function by controlling slider stroke and back gauge.


When using CNC press brake, you only need to input the pieces number of the work piece which required for bending as well as bending angle for each step, the CNC press brake will finish bending according to the steps you just set in the controller.


Advanced CNC press brake mainly adopts hydro-electric servo system and grating ruler to form closed-loop control. It features high control accuracy, as well as bending accuracy and repositioning accuracy.


The operation of CNC press brake can be flexible, both over length plates bending with tandem press brake and short work piece fabrication with normal press brake can be realized, which not only improve press brake utilization ratio but reduce energy consumption.

● Components

1. Sliding part

Adopting hydraulic transmission, the sliding part of hydraulic press brake is made up of sliding block, oil cylinder and the mechanically stop fine-tuning. The oil cylinders of hydraulic bending machine at both ends are fixed on the frame, and the mechanical block is controlled by the CNC system to adjust value.


2. Operating platform

Manipulated by button box, the operating platform of hydraulic press brake makes the motor move back and forth. The moving distance is controlled by CNC system, and the smallest reading is 0.01 mm (front and back positions are set up with travel limit switch).


● Synchronizing system

The synchronizing system of hydraulic bending machine is made up of torsion shaft, swing arm and joint bearings. This precise machine is stable in structure and performance. Its stop dog is adjusted by motor. The number is controlled by CNC system.


● Block material structure

Block material of hydraulic press brake uses motor drive, and the size of block is controlled by numerical control system.


● Attention

Strictly abide by the hydraulic bending machine safety operation procedures.


Before starting hydraulic press brake, the motor, switch, wiring and grounding shall be carefully checked. Check the equipment control station and the button so that they are in the correct position.


Check the contact ratio of upper and lower die and the consistence. Check whether the positioning device of hydraulic bending machine meets requirements.


When the upper skateboard and the location shaft of hydraulic press brake are not at the original point,, reset them into original state.


Keep the machine running for minutes after launching and let the upper sliding plate remain moving for 2 or 3 rounds. If any abnormal noise or multifunction arises, stop running the machine and solve multifunction problems.


One peroson is specially needed to command the whole operation so that operators and material feeding workers can cooperate well. Only after assuring all the workers are in safety area, can this commander deliver the message that bending is beginning.


Sheet materials should be compacted enough so that workers are prevented from injury because of warped sheets.When the hydraulic bending machine is working, people are not allowed to stand at the back of the machine.It is strictly prohibited to crushing plate only at one end.


If workpieces or molds are not rightly placed, stop running the hydraulic press and replace them in the right positions. Besides, it is forbidden to touch and replace the workpieces or molds when the machine is in opeation.


To avoid damage to the machine, no sheet materials beyond the machine's bending capacity are allowed to be processed, such as ultra-thick iron sheets, quenched steel sheets, grade alloy steel, square steel, etc.


Check the contact ratio of the upper and lower molds.

①If mulfunction occurs, immediately stop the hydraulic press brake and check the probloem and timely eliminate the faults.


②Before shutting down, a wooden block should be placed on the lower die at the bottom of both sides of the cylinder, in order to slide down the upper die to this block.


③Exit the program control system first, and then cut off power supply.


● Maintenance and Repair 

Before maintainance or cleaning, the hydraulic bending machine should be shut down, and the upper die should be aligned with the lower die. If you want to open the hydraulic press brake or conduct other operation, this machine should be changed into the manual mode to ensure safety. Details are as follows:


1. Hydraulic Oil Line

①The oil level should be checked every week. If oil level is below oil window, you should add hydraulic oil according to requirements. 


②Before changing oil for hydraulic bending machine, the oil tank should be cleaned. 


③Oil temperature should be kept between 35℃ and 60℃, and not over 70℃. If the oil temperature is higher, the oil quality and auxiliaries will be damaged.


④Changcheng brand L-HM46 hydraulic oil is available in this hydraulic press brake.


⑤In a new hydraulic bending machine, the oil should be changed after working 2000 hours. In future days, the oil should be changed after working 4000-6000 hours. The oil tank should be cleaned when changing the oil.


2. Filter

①Once you change oil, the filter of hydraulic press brake should be changed or cleaned thoroughly.


②When the hydraulic bending machine rings alarm, the filter should be changed.


③Air filter on the oil tank should be checked and cleaned every 3 months. And it should be replaced every 1 year.


3. Hydraulic components

① Monthly clean hydraulic components (base plate, valve, motor, pump, tubing, etc.) of hydraulic press brake to prevent dirt from entering the system, and the cleaner cannot be used.


②After using a new hydraulic bending machine for one month, check the oil pipe bend whether there is deformation, it must be changed if there is any abnormal. After one more month, tighten the joint of all accessories. Doing this job, the hydraulic press brake should be shut down, then the system is without pressure.
